Ultimately, CLG were unable to perform in playoffs, as they lost to Team Liquid in the quarterfinals and ended the split tied for fifth place with Gravity.Įchoing their spring split performance, CLG started the summer split strong, in first place at the end of each of the first four weeks and then lost four games in a row to finish tied for fifth after week six. CLG fans called the split CLG's "golden age," but the question still remained whether CLG could perform in the playoffs, especially after a dramatic comeback loss to Team SoloMid the first time the two teams met in the round robin. 2015 Season įor the first eight weeks of the spring split, CLG were never lower in the standings than tied for second place, and the only reason they didn't receive a playoff bye was that they lost a second-place tie breaker to Cloud9 and so ended up in third place. Furthermore was CLG restricted from fielding ZionSpartan as a player or coach for the first week of the 2015 LCS Spring Split. CLG was fined $2,000 while Doublelift was fined $2,500. In 2018, he joined Team Liquid full-time and has been with them since.ĭoublelift has represented North America in every All-Star tournament since 2013, with the exception of 2017.ĬLG and Doublelift were fined on Januafter being found guilty of poaching ZionSpartan. During spring 2017, he was a part-time sub for Team Liquid after taking the majority of the split off to focus on streaming. After the 2015 season, he joined TSM, where he won three LCS titles from 2016 to 2017. He was with CLG from 2011 to 2015, going through numerous roster changes and several LCS campaigns. In November 2011, Doublelift left Curse and rejoined CLG, now as their starting AD Carry. He competed for Curse at LAN events such as IGN Proleague and IEM New York. Doublelift then moved on to unRestricted (now known as Curse Gaming), to become their starting AD Carry. HotshotGG asked him to join Counter Logic Gaming as a substitute which he accepted, but soon moved to Epik Gamer for a starting position as their Support. Known for his Blitzcrank, Doublelift gained the attention of George " HotshotGG" Georgallidis in early 2011, and the two duo queued together. Peng eventually moved in with Travis " Tnomad" Gafford prior to joining Counter Logic Gaming. Peng was eventually kicked out of his home by his parents after he had got back from DreamHack Summer 2011. Eventually they all left these games behind and moved to LoL. This allowed him to spend more time playing computer games such as DotA, WoW, and HoN with his brother and friends. Since his brother would buy a new computer every few years, Peng soon came to own his own hand-me-down desktop. After his brother got a computer, Peng frequently used it to play Diablo 1 and StarCraft. Peng first discovered his love for video games through classic Nintendo 64 titles Star Fox and Golden Eye. I far prefer the first and wish more game in the second category would ditch the open world.Yiliang " Doublelift" Peng hails from Mission Viejo, California. In my opinion these games are really not about the open world - they are very on rails games that just have open sandboxes that you move through to get to the next on-rails section of content. where the game really isn't encouraging much exploration other than happening upon random encounters or side-content. These come from the Elder Scrolls sort of world building.Ģ) Games where the open world is a giant hub - This is the vast vast majority of open world games. To me, there are two types of "open world" games:ġ) Games where the world is truly open and about discovery - finding hidden missions, hidden narrative elements, hidden gear that feels organic and lived in where you will miss much of the game on your first playthrough. I mean, if we are talking open worlds it is shocking how bad the world itself is in so many open world games.Īlso, I take exception to games like Morrowind and Daggerfall being missing from this list as those titles epitomized the nascent open world RPG and frankly to this day feel like the closest precursors to what Breath of the Wild and Elden Ring are going for - true sandboxes. I was about to take exception to some of these as I find their open worlds to be subpar (Forbidden West) but do find them to be great games.
